Mission Green: Our Vision for Sustainable Countryside Cottages, Cabins and Land
Its not about the Words – its about the Actions! However, using this small collection of words we aim to clearly state what we have done, what we are doing and our commitment to future action.
Mission Green is our committment to redefining countryside escapes by blending the tranquility of rural living with modern sustainability to offer Eco-friendly accommodation in Ayrshire. Our plan centers on the thoughtful development of self-catering cottages, cabins and the surrrounding land that promotes harmony between people and nature, delivering memorable stays that tread lightly on the earth.
Our Approach

Eco-Conscious Restoration
Our two stone cottages perched in a stunning location on the Carrick Hills were originally built around 1895. These have been sensitively renovated with both the inside and outside in mind. Open plan living, new high efficieny boilers, smart control heating and 100% Green Electricity. We, of course, added high level insulation and top specification double glazed windows and doors to create a light and airy space whilst ensuring a warm, welcoming and eco friendly bolthole.

Sensitive Addition of Luxury Eco Cabins
Our plan is to add 4 luxury Eco Cabins nestled in a prime position to take advantage of the stunning views. Each cabin would be created from recycled shipping containers incorporating eco-friendly materials, high energy efficiency standards, and 100% renewable energy sources including solar panels and compact air source heat pumps. A rainwater harvesting systems in conjunction with a chlorine free wood fired bath/hot tub would be used to feed into an irragtion system to assist the health of a new 2 acre wildflower meadow to be created directly in front of the cabins on the land dropping down the hillside. (NB – this is suject to local planning approval).
Encouraging Wildlife and Enhancing the Landscape
Following visits and discussions with the Ayrshire Nectar Network, a Scottish Wildlife Trust led project, we are delighted to confirm that we are now a Partner of the Nectar Network. By becoming a Partner, we can help with their vision to create and connect nectar and pollen-rich habitats across Ayrshire, by planting and managing more spaces with wildflowers and trees- to establish pollinator highways. A pollinatior highway is a network of connected habitats designed to support the movement and survival of pollinators like bees, butterflies and other insects. These highways aim to link fragmented highways, allowing pollinators to travel further, find food sources, and reproduce more effectively.
- Preserve an embankment where a large colony of mining bees have created a home. This will also be highlighted for our guests
- The current hedgerows made up of Hawthorns, Elder and Rowan are sparse in certain sections. These gaps will be filled to help create a continous hedgerow highway. Some of the hedgerow trees will be allowed to grow taller to further support birdlife
- A new 50 metre Hedgerow will be added to link hedgerows separated by a field. This will be made of a combination of existing hedgerow species along with Blackthorn and Aspen
- Circa 2.25 acres of existing species poor grass fields will be enhanced to create species rich wildflower meadows and strengthen the natural habitat. Management of the wildflower fields will be through Conservation grazing, using grazing animals to further diversify and maintain the richness.
